Nintendo-Wii, the seventh generation video game systems, was launched by Nintendo in September 2006. The Wii video system pronounced `we` gather people of all ages and experience, together to play. The current package includes the following: Wii console, remote with strap, one Nunchuk, AC adaptor, composite A/V cable, console stand, sensor bar and stand, two AA batteries and sports game.

The most extraordinary feature of this gaming console is the wireless controller, the Wii Remote and the WiiConnect 24. Measuring 1.7 x 6.2 x 8.5 inches (44 x 157 x 215.4 mm), and weighing only 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg), Nintendo wii comes as the smallest home gaming console and lightest among the three major players of the seventh generation gaming consoles.

The Wii has a powerful 512 MB internal flash memory, two number USB 2.0 ports and a slot provided for SD memory expansion. The SD card can be used for a variety of purpose, for example, as a back up for saved game data and downloaded virtual console games, for uploading photos, for creating customized music in the game, etc.

The heart of the system`s technology is a processing chip developed along with IBM and graphics chip from ATI. The processor chip is named as `Broadway` and the graphics chip is named as `Hollywood`. It uses a single, self loading media bay that plays both Nintendo Gamecube discs as well as 12 centimeter optical discs required for the new system.

The magical Wii remote has some striking features. The accelerometers located inside the controller and infrared detector to sense the position in 3D space can measure movements at all speeds and all directions. In a driving game it serves as your steering wheel. In Tennis game, you can use this as your racket to swing away and there are many more examples. The controller has expansion port for use with accessories as well it has force feedback `Rumble` features. The Wii Remote also has a small speaker at the center, allowing players to hear sounds programmed directly into the controller.

If you prefer the feel of a traditional controller, you can connect an adapter which is available and easily fits over the Wii`s remote.

The Wii console is backward compatible with Nintendo Gamecube software. The console can communicate with internet even when there is no power. It can also communicate with Nintendo DS wirelessly without any accessories.

The WiiConnect 24 allows download to players via the Internet. The downloadable items may include weapons, new level costumes, etc. WiiConnect 24 while keeps Wii on all day long, uses minimal energy. However players can deactivate this at any time.

Wii`s operating system interface is divided into a number of smaller channels, designed similar to the television channels. The channels are graphically displayed in a grid and can be easily navigated using Wii Remote. A short list of the available channels is as follows: forecast channel, photo channel, news channel, virtual console channel(s), Wii Shop Channel, internet channel, Wii message board, everybody votes channel and disc channel.

While playing offline, a maximum of four controllers can be used in Wii. Rather than focusing only on a costly technology, Nintendo is looking forward to put an emphasis on gameplay and innovation with Wii and company`s intention is to reach out to everybody including amateurs.

The Nintendo Dsi XL comes in dark brown and wine red colors with a matt finish on the back and side for excellent grip while playing and a glossy sheen on the top.

The r4 cards work with the Nintendo Ds models and the R4i cards work with the Nintendo Dsi models. Board games and video games have now become a story of past. Today is the world of great innovations like handheld game devices. One such fabulous handheld game device is Nintendo Dsi, an advanced version of primitive video games. Equipped with two LCD screens and an in built internet connection count among incredible features of this gaming console. This play station has built in screen, speakers and game controls making plugging of various accessories easier. Being portable, these devices can be carried everywhere.

 

These gaming devices have made playing more realistic and adventurous. The Nintendo Dsi XL is the fourth model in the Nintendo DS series and an upgraded version of the Nintendo Dsi model. It has two LCD screens of 4.2 inches and an in built 3-mega pixel camera. It also has a stylus and a new feature of 5.1 touch screen pointer in a pen shape. This stylus is added in this model especially to have a better control on the game.

 

This model is launched as Nintendo Dsi XL in Europe and America and as Dsi LL à in Japan. The manufacturers have given it an extended memory 4 times more than the previous models. Among the countable features is an internal ram of 16MB that allows the user to store a number of games. The gaming console makes you enjoy the WPA and WPA2 services. The Nintendo Dsi XL comes in dark brown and wine red colors with a matt finish on the back and side for excellent grip while playing and a glossy sheen on the top.

 

If you want more thrill and adventure than just playing games on the gaming console then you require the r4 cards and the R4i cards. The r4 cards work with the Nintendo Ds models and the R4i cards work with the Nintendo Dsi models. These cards increase the memory capacity of the gaming consoles allowing the user to watch movies, listen to songs, see pictures and even read e-books. With the help of these cards, the user is not only limited to just downloading and storing games from internet but also can do the same with music, e-books and videos.

 

One of the worth mentioning feature here is that you can download and play all the games from the internet as these cards make the gaming console compatible to all the games online. Your Nintendo device with the use of the r4 and the R4i cards becomes more or less into a movie machine or an iPod.

 

Another accessory that is essentially important for these gaming consoles is the adapter for console. It can be said that these adapters are the necessity for the gaming consoles. The adapters enable the user to have unlimited excitement for endless hours as they keep the device working by providing the continuous power supply. No device comes with a life long power back facility so these adapters prove to be their power back ups. It would not bewrong to say that Nintendo Dsi XL has redefined the gaming experience to be enjoyed not by kids but also by adults.

During the early years of video games, it was incredibly popular for young children to go down to the Arcades and play video games.

In the modern ages, children now save themselves the journey of a five to ten minute walk and now easily plug in and play their desired games in their very own home.

Playing video games at home began in 1977 when the company, Atari, released their video game system, ‘VCS’ (later known as Atari 2600) for a princely sum of 9. In the same year, Nintendo released their console, TV Game 6, to rival the Atari 2600.

Arcades were very popular in those days, as it still is in the modern world, as Midway released the first video game that could keep high scores.

It’s name? The world-renowned ‘Space Invaders’.

In 1980, many classic arcade games were made. Video games such as Atari’s ‘Asteroids’ and Namco’s ‘Pacman’ which can now be easily played in handheld consoles such as the Nintendo DS.

By 1994, many sagas of Video Game history came and went. There was a Video Game Console market crash which made many companies pull out of the business leaving Nintendo, Sega and Atari – the leading competitors of the market.

In 1995, Atari pulled out of the market and a new competitor emerged – Sony – which would famously go on to lead the console market. In that year, Sony released the ‘Playstation’ – a 32-bit CD-based video game console, Sega released the ‘Saturn’ and Nintendo released the ‘Nintendo 64′ which was the last video game console that used cartridge media.

By the year 2000, Sony had a firm grip on the Video Game Console market as it released the Playstation 2 with many loyal game developers such as Namco (Ridge Racer, Tekken) and selling over 100 million units. The Playstation 2 was the first console which was able to play games of its predecessor.

In the following years, Microsoft entered the market with the ‘Xbox’, Nintendo released the ‘Gamecube’. Nintendo led the handheld console with the release of Gameboy Advance which could play Gameboy and Gameboy Color cartridges.

Sega eventually left the Console industry, happily residing to be a software-only designer.

Now in 2006, there seems to be a gradual switch of the market leader with Microsoft releasing their Next-Gen console faster than Sony and Nintendo.

The ‘XBox 360′ features razor-sharp graphics and enables users to play online with each other. It was released at Christmas 2005 but many consoles were sent back to the manufacturers because of faulty parts.

The Sony Playstation 3 is set for launch on the November 2006 after the delay of its original release date Spring 2006 because of copyright complications. It is rumoured that there will be over 30 launch titles. It is also rumoured that Sony has invested over 0 million in development, research and production.

Nintendo will release its console ‘Revolution’, now renamed as ‘Wii’ (pronounced We) shortly after the PS3 with its release date being scheduled for Christmas 2006.

The end of 2006 will certainly entail some turning points in Video Game History.
